Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using TIF1 AI (the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

You must be at least 13 years of age (or the applicable digital consent age in your jurisdiction) to use the Service.

2. Service Description

TIF1 AI is a Formula 1 statistics chatbot that allows you to ask natural-language questions about F1 historical data. The Service uses:

• DuckDB-WASM to execute SQL queries entirely in your browser over Parquet data files
• AI models (via Google AI Studio, OpenRouter, or Cerebras) to generate SQL from your questions
• Streaming responses for real-time answers

3. Account Tiers

Anonymous / Free Tier

• No account required
• Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) — you provide your own AI provider API key
• Chat history, saved queries, and settings stored locally in your browser
• AI calls made directly from your browser to the provider (our server is not involved)

Paid Sponsor Tier ($4.99/month)

• GitHub Sponsors subscription required
• OAuth login via GitHub or Google
• Cloud features: server-side conversation history, saved queries, encrypted API key storage
• AI calls proxied through our server with encrypted key handling

4. User Responsibilities

• Bring Your Own Key: You are responsible for your API key usage, including any costs, rate limits, or quota consumption incurred through your key. TIF1 AI does not provide API keys and is not responsible for charges from AI providers.
• API Key Security: Keep your API keys secure. Do not share them. In the anonymous tier, keys are stored in your browser’s IndexedDB only.
• Provider Terms: By using the Service, you must also comply with the terms of service of the AI provider you select: Google AI Studio, OpenRouter, or Cerebras.
• Accurate Use: Do not use the Service to generate misleading, fraudulent, or deliberately incorrect F1 statistics.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of applicable laws
• Attempt to scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the Service
• Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to access the Service
• Exceed rate limits: 30 requests per minute on /api/chat (enforced via Cloudflare edge and in-memory counters), 100 auth requests per minute window
• Attempt to bypass security measures, CSP policies, or authentication
• Submit queries designed to crash, overload, or degrade the Service

We reserve the right to block or terminate access for users who violate these terms.

6. GitHub Sponsors Payment

The paid sponsor tier is priced at $4.99/month via GitHub Sponsors. All billing, payment processing, cancellation, and receipts are handled entirely by GitHub. TIF1 AI does not process or store payment information.

• Sponsor status is verified via the GitHub GraphQL API on each login
• Status is cached for 5 minutes; a manual refresh is available in account settings
• Cancelling your GitHub Sponsorship ends access to sponsor features
• No refunds are processed through TIF1 AI; refund requests must go through GitHub

7. Intellectual Property

• F1 Data: The Formula 1 statistics data used by the Service is sourced from the publicly available F1DB dataset. TIF1 AI does not claim ownership of this data.
• Application Code: The TIF1 AI application, including its source code, design, and branding, is proprietary. All rights reserved.
• User Queries: You retain ownership of the questions you ask. TIF1 AI does not claim any intellectual property rights over your queries.
• AI-Generated SQL: SQL queries generated by third-party AI models are the output of those models. TIF1 AI makes no intellectual property claim over AI-generated content.

8. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with the following third-party services. Your use of each is subject to that provider’s own terms and privacy policies:

• AI Providers: Google AI Studio, OpenRouter, Cerebras
• Authentication: Better Auth (GitHub OAuth, Google OAuth)
• Hosting: Hetzner (VPS, Germany), Cloudflare (CDN, tunnel, DNS)
• Analytics: Cloudflare Web Analytics, PostHog (EU region)

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

• AI-Generated SQL: SQL queries generated by AI models may contain errors. The Service includes self-healing logic that attempts up to 3 automatic repairs for DuckDB errors, but correct results are not guaranteed.
• F1 Data Accuracy: While the F1DB dataset is widely used and maintained, TIF1 AI does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of F1 statistics.
• DuckDB-WASM: DuckDB-WASM runs in your browser. Resource-intensive or malformed SQL may cause your browser tab to crash. This does not affect the server or other users.
• Service Availability: We strive to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Maintenance, hosting issues, or Cloudflare events may cause downtime.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, TIF1 AI and its operators shall not be liable for:

• Errors or inaccuracies in AI-generated SQL or F1 data
• Service interruptions, downtime, or data loss
• Charges incurred through your AI provider API keys
• Browser crashes caused by DuckDB-WASM execution
• Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages

Our maximum liability to any user shall not exceed the fees paid by that user in the 12 months preceding the claim (or $0 for free-tier users).

11. Termination

Termination by You

You may stop using the Service at any time. You can delete your account and all associated server-side data via POST /api/account/delete. Free-tier deletion is immediate. Sponsor accounts have a 48-hour recovery window before permanent deletion. Account deletion cascades through saved queries, provider keys, chat conversations, and user profile data before signing you out.

Termination by Us

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to the Service for users who violate these Terms of Service. Where possible, we will provide notice before termination.

Effect of Termination

Upon termination, your server-side data is deleted. Local browser data (free-tier history, cached files) is unaffected and can be cleared by clearing your browser storage.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via a service announcement on the application. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of Germany and the European Union. The Service is hosted on a Hetzner VPS in Nuremberg/Falkenstein, Germany. Data processing is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Any disputes arising from these terms shall be resolved in the competent courts of Germany.
